Letters to Senator Harckham to oppose Physician Assisted Suicide in NY. Once again the Physician Assisted Suicide(PAS)bill(S2445, A995)is before the Legislature. It is now in the Senate Health Committee and expected to come for a vote during Feb. Next weekend, the 17th and 18th, we will have letters preparedfor you to sign rejecting this bill.We will send them to Sen. Harckham. Please take a minute to sign your name and address. The object of this bill is to allow doctors to legally prescribe a lethal dose of pills for the patient to use at home to kill himself/herself. The patient is to have a terminal illness or condition and is expected to die in 6 months. There are so many reasons to object to this bill. First: God gave us life and only He can take it back to Himself. There is nothing compassionate about assisted suicide. There are palliative ways of dealing with pain. Doctors have been wrong in diagnosis many times. It ruins the doctor/patient relationship.NY discourages suicide by having a hot line 988 to help a person from committing suicide. And then NY would send an opposite message about the dignity of people by allowing vulnerable people to choose suicide.Ten states have such an act and are found rejecting any safeguards that had been in place.
