TO MEMBERS OF ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST PARISH COMMUNITY
The health and safety of the parish staff and community at St. John the Evangelist parish is our top priority. I am writing to inform you that Fr. Justice reported a positive test result for COVID-19 on the evening of Wednesday, January 19, 2022. The last day of exposure at the parish was on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. CDC advises that any symptoms of Coronavirus appear between 2 and 14 days from the date of exposure. We are handling this situation with the utmost seriousness. It is important to listen to facts and not respond to fear or rumor. We would encourage you to visit the CDC website www.CDC.Gov for additional factual information.
The NYS Department of Health has advised that only those unvaccinated individuals who were in “close contact” with the infected person are required to quarantine. Individuals who were in close contact are persons who were less than 6 feet of the infected individual for a cumulative 15 minutes or more over a 24 hour period (for example, 3 individual 5-minute exposures for a total of 15 minutes). The parish will endeavor to contact those individuals who have been identified as potentially being in close contact with Fr. Justice to alert them to the situation.
CDC advises that only unvaccinated individuals who come in close contact with an infected person are required to quarantine for 10 days. If someone is vaccinated and comes in close contact with an infected person, the vaccinated person does not need to quarantine.
The offering of Mass and the distribution of Holy Communion is not considered “close contact” by the County Department of Health.
The parish is following protocols from the CDC and NYS DOH and will continue to clean and sanitize the church following CDC Guidelines using approved disinfectants.
